Friday, October 12, 2012 – Enhancements to the NIH Awards by Location and Organization Tool


Several enhancements have been made to the NIH Awards by Location and Organization Tool.
  • Added filters for Funding Opportunity Announcements and Congressional Districts.
  • Organizations on the map are now represented by circles which vary in size based on amount of funding.
  • Other minor updates and enhancements.

Friday, October 12, 2012 – Release of RePORTER ver. 5.0.0: Enhancements Made to the RePORTER Tool


Several enhancements have been made to the RePORT Expenditures and Results (RePORTER) tool in the past few months. The highlights of these enhancements include:
  • A new multi PI filter is added to display only projects which use the multiple Program Director/Principal Investigator option (More information on this option is available at https://grants.nih.gov/grants/multi_PI/ )
  • RSS feed of newly added projects is made available for users.
  • Other minor updates and enhancements

Tuesday, September 25, 2012 – Funding Facts: Addition of Natural Language User Interface


The Funding Facts interface has been redesigned with new search capabilities to find targeted answers to questions about grant applications, awards, funding, and success rates.

The new feature uses natural language processing to understand the nature of the question and create the query for you. The previous interface utilizing filter selection boxes is still available too.

Tuesday, September 18, 2012 – Summary of recent RePORTER Tool Enhancements


Several enhancements have been made to the RePORT Expenditures and Results (RePORTER) tool in the past few months. The highlights of these enhancements include:
  • RePORTER interface has been updated to match the NIH RePORT website.
  • A new “Nearby Projects” tab has been added to Project Information page to display Organization & Projects within 20 miles of the selected project. (For projects in US, where organization information is available.)
  • A new Browse NIH tab is added on the RePORTER home page providing users alternate way to navigate RePORTER data. Users will be able to select the NIH IC along with other filters to view the drill down results.
  • Project number search limit on the query form increased from 100 to 500.
  • Multiple organizations (maximum 25 institutions) can now be selected as part of a single query.
  • Ability to select projects based on funding (in dollars per award) using the Award Size filter is added on the query form.
  • Organization Lookup button is added to the Query form, which allows users to find and select a single organization’s exact name before submitting a query.
  • Split project number search is added to allow users to enter a partial project number.
  • Project abstract export limit is increased from 100 to 5000.

Thursday, April 26, 2012 – Release of RePORTER ver. 3.9.0: Enhancements Made to the RePORTER Tool


Several enhancements have been made to the RePORT Expenditures and Results (RePORTER) tool. The highlights of these enhancements include:
  • A new "Circles" visualization has been added on the Data & Visualize tab that provides users with an interactive visualization of terms appearing in projects terms, abstracts and titles of the search results.
  • An option to view a summary by congressional district is added to the charts on Data & Visualize tab.
  • Ability to use wildcard (“%”) when searching multiple project numbers.

Monday, February 13, 2012 - NIH releases actual FY 2011 spending in 233 major research, disease, and condition categories.


The National Institutes of Health has released actual FY 2011 spending in 233 major research, disease, and condition categories. Spending estimates for fiscal years 2012 and 2013 are also now available. These reports are generated using standard category definitions and computerized tools to categorize research projects. This categorization process began in FY 2008, at the request of Congress, to provide consistent and transparent NIH research funding information. These updated data can be found in the “Estimates of Funding for Various Diseases, Conditions, and Disease Categories (RCDC)” table located on the RePORT site at www.report.nih.gov/rcdc/categories

Thursday, January 12, 2012 – Release of RePORTER ver. 3.2.1: Enhancements Made to the RePORTER Tool

Several enhancements have been made to the RePORT Expenditures and Results (RePORTER) tool. The highlights of these enhancements include:
  • A System Health indicator, color coded for quick performance assessment has been added to the RePORTER screen. Mouse over icon for details.
  • RePORTER Query Form now accepts up to 100 Principal Investigator / Project Leader entries.
  • Data & Visualize Tab now allow users to graph either Projects or Project Funding data. The Data Table can be sorted and the graph will automatically update to reflect the change.
  • News Tab renamed News & More, now displays ARRA Investment Reports and ARRA Stories related to projects in the search results, or the individual project if accessed from the Project Information page.
  • The PI/Project Leader ID column is added as a downloadable element for Export to Excel.
