| The CRISP system has been retired as of September 1, 2009 and replaced by the RePORT Expenditures and Results (RePORTER) module. | Wednesday, June 17, 2009 - On September 1, 2009, the CRISP system will be retired. |
The NIH has released to the public a beta version of its new Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool Expenditures and Results (RePORTER) tool. This new tool retains all of the features of CRISP while providing additional query fields, hit lists that can be sorted and downloaded to Excel, NIH funding for each project (expenditures), and the publications and patents that have acknowledged support from each project (results). RePORTER also provides links to PubMed Central, PubMed, and the US Patent & Trademark Office Patent Full Text and Image Database for more information on research results. New features will be added to RePORTER in several releases throughout fiscal year 2010.
On September 1, 2009, the CRISP system will be retired and replaced by the NIH RePORTER. In the meantime, comments on RePORTER are being solicited through the feedback link on the RePORTER site.

| Monday, March 30, 2009 – Most recent updates to RePORT |
Several new enhancements have been made to the RePORT Web site as follows:
- The NIH Data Book has been reorganized and some of the slides have been updated for FY 2008. This is only the first of several updates to be made to the Data Book. Weekly releases over the next month will include updates to more of the tables and figures. All tables and figures in the Data Book can be exported to PowerPoint or printed in a printer-friendly format.
- The tables of awards by State and Congressional district now include an interactive Google map with geocoded institutions and drill-down capabilility.
- A visualization tool for exploring the standard table of Research Project Grant (RPG) success rates by activity code and Institute or Center (IC) has been added - look for the "Visualize" button on the Success Rate page.
This tool is the first of several new reporting capabilities we hope to make available through RePORT. As we "ReTool" our reporting to provide more than just static tables, we will post new concepts that either we develop or others contribute to a new reporting tools page.

| Thursday, January 15, 2009 – NIH Begins New Process to Report Detailed Funding Information |
On January 15, 2009, the National Institutes of Health made public the results of a new process for providing detailed funding information for 215 major areas of research. The Research, Condition, and Disease Categorization (RCDC) process uses standard category definitions, knowledge management principles, and computerized tools to categorize research projects. The RCDC process was initiated at the request of Congress to provide consistent and transparent NIH research funding information. Categorized projects funded in FY 2008 can be found in the “Estimates of Funding for Various Diseases, Conditions, and Research Areas” table located on the RePORT site at www.report.nih.gov/rcdc/categories.

| Tuesday, January 13, 2009 – NIH Strategic Plans and Visions |
| The RePORT home page now includes a link to NIH strategic plans and visions. Here you will find information on the comprehensive strategic plan or vision of each NIH institute and center, including both published documents and information on those in the process of being updated. A separate tab on this page presents NIH-wide plans for several areas of trans-NIH research, and another section contains research plans for several topical areas. |
| Wednesday, October 15, 2008 – NIH Extramural Data Book and RePORT hit list enhancements |
The hit lists resulting from report searches now include titles for each report. More detailed information (e.g., the ICs and activities included in the report) can be found by clicking on the small arrow ( ) that appears next to the title. The searchable tags applied to each report are also more extensive, which will increase the likelihood of finding a report of interest.
A new version of the NIH Data Book (NDB) is now accessible at: http://report.nih.gov/nihdatabook/. Unlike the Powerpoint version of the Data Book, the charts and tables in this new version are generated and updated automatically from a database of NIH statistics. This will increase NIH’s ability to provide timely information in the future. Eventually, we hope to provide the capability for users to download Powerpoint slides and Excel spreadsheets from this new database-driven NDB. Until this is available, the Powerpoint and pdf versions of the NDB will continue to be made available.
The original Office of Extramural Research Award Information & Data Web site and its major sections have been retired. All the content previously found on those web pages has been reorganized and can be found on the RePORT Web site. A table provides a mapping between information on the old and new sites. Please update your bookmarks to the new RePORT site. This table will be available until the end of November, 2008.
As always, we welcome your feedback! Use the feedback link found on each page. |
