Tethered Applications/GrantsWhen applications are submitted for multiple PI's from multiple organizations, the application from the partnering Institutions are associated and reviewed as a single project. If an award is made, each of the involved institutions will receive a separate grant to fund the collaborative project. All applications are linked by a common project title and by cross-references within each application.
Total Project CostsThe total allowable costs (both direct costs and facilities and administrative costs) incurred by the grantee to carry out a grant-supported project or activity. Total project costs include costs charged to the NIH grant and costs borne by the grantee to satisfy a matching or cost-sharing requirement.
Trainee, Short-Term Calculated number of short-term trainees equivalent to full-time positions. A short-term appointment is assumed to be 3 months. Thus the FTTP is the number of short-term trainees divided by 4.
Trainees, Postdoctoral FTTPs Number of postdoctoral Full-Time Trainee Positions.
Trainees, Predoctoral FTTPs Number of predoctoral Full-Time Trainee Positions.

Translational Research Translational research includes two areas of translation. One is the process of applying discoveries generated during research in the laboratory, and in preclinical studies, to the development of trials and studies in humans. The second area of translation concerns research aimed at enhancing the adoption of best practices in the community. Cost-effectiveness of prevention and treatment strategies is also an important part of translational science.

Tuition The amount of tuition and fees awarded to the trainee.
TypeSee Application Types.
Type 1 Diabetes InitiativeFunding provided by the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 for research on the prevention and cure of type 1 diabetes. These funds are administered by the NIDDK through the authority provided to it by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
